Alagappa University Central Library

The Central Library of Alagappa University was started in 1987 and shifted to the present building in 1990. The magnificent, functionally convenient building built at a cost of Rs. 50 lakhs, thanks to the generous assistance from the UGC during VII Plan, and Government of Tamilnadu. The Library occupies an area of 2012 square meter with a seating capacity of 200+. The Library collection includes one lakh thirty two thousand volumes of printed books, subscriptions to 178 printed periodicals, 843 items of non-book materials, and 2906 volumes of theses in print form. Access to 11,896+ numbers of Online journals and 6,00,000+ numbers of e-books are also available. The mode of access is Open Access. The Library caters mainly to the needs of Post Graduate Students, Research Scholars, Faculties and other Staff of the University.

Library operations are mostly computerized especially circulation of books and cataloguing. Currently RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) based Library Management System is implemented in the current year. This has made possible a User friendly self-checkout and self-check-in options, web based OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) and smart payment facility for overdue charges. The Library has all the amenities of a University Library – an inviting exterior, spacious Reading Halls, three-tier Stack Rooms, lucrative Conference Hall, elegant Discussion


Room; Rooms for the Librarian, Library staff and different sections of the Library. It has essential equipments for computing, printing, reprography, binding, etc. Besides the Central Library, there are four Faculty Libraries and Department Libraries to cater to the needs of the users in the respective locations.

  • Weekdays : 09.00 A.M to 08.00 P.M
  • Weekends : 10.00 A.M to 05.00 P.M
  • The Central Library is kept open on all the days of the year, except on Public Holidays (approximately 340 days in a year).
